The Genus Collinsia. Xvii. a Cytogenetic Study of Radiation-Induced Reciprocal Translocations in C. Heterophylla.

چکیده
RECIPROCAL translocation between nonhomologous chromosomes may be Adetected cytologically by observing an interchange complex at metaphase I. The interchange complex may occur either as an alternate or adjacent configuration, that is, zigzag or open ring or chain. In some species, the frequency of pollen mother cells with one or the other configurations is approximately equal; in other species, the number of pollen mother cells with an alternate configuration is significantly higher than 50 percent (directed orientation) . Reciprocal translocations within a species generally yield interchange complexes exhibiting either a random or directed orientation but not both (BURNHAM 1956). Seventeen colchicine-induced reciprocal translocations in Collinsia heterophy2la Buist (n = 7) gave interchange complexes with a random orientation at metaphase I ( SORIANO 1957). Cytogenetic studies of radiation-induced reciprocal translocations to be reported in this paper indicate a high frequency of directed orientation of the interchange complexes at this stage.

Chromosomal Analysis of Couples with Repeated Spontaneous Abortions in Northeastern Iran
Background Cytogenetic study of reproductive wastage is an important aspect in determining the genetic background of early embryogenesis. Approximately 15 to 20% of all pregnancies in humans are terminated as recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSAs). The aim of this study was to detect chromosome abnormalities in couples with RSAs and to compare our results with those reported previously. Materia...
متن کاملA Case Report of a Novel Balanced Reciprocal Translocation t(2;14)(q11;q24) in a Young Woman with Two Pregnancy Losses
Reciprocal chromosome translocations, especially balanced rearrangements are known to be one of the main causes of recurrent miscarriage. In this case report, we performed the clinical and cytogenetic analysis on a young couple with two pregnancy losses. Though the couple had a normal clinical study, the cytogenetic analysis revealed a balanced reciprocal translocation of t(2;14)(q11;q24) where...
متن کاملALLOMETRIC SCALING AND FLORAL SIZE VARIATION IN COLLINSIA by
Allometric scaling theory has previously been used to estimate the functional relationship between two biological variables. In addition to parameter estimation, deviations from the general scaling relationship can be used to create hypotheses. Here, I explore deviations from the allometric scaling pattern for plant and floral size within the genus Collinsia on three levels: among species, with...
متن کاملGenetic Effects in Somatic and Germ Cells in Rabbits following External Gamma Radiation. I. Reciprocal Translocations in Spermatogonia
Male rabbits, aged 4.5 months, were subjected to graded total gamma irradiations of 0.5 Gy, 1.5 Gy, 2.5 Gy and 3.0 Gy with a dose density of 24 Gy/min. The genetic effects in spermatogonia were assessed 3 months later using cytogenetic analysis of chromosomal preparations. The data showed a dose-dependent increase in the frequency of reciprocal translocations, induced in spermatogonia and detec...
متن کاملPersistent in vivo cytogenetic effects of radioiodine therapy: a 21-year follow-up study using multicolor FISH
Our previous studies demonstrated the cytogenetic effects in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of a 34-year-old male patient who received ablative radioactive 131iodine therapy (RIT) on two different occasions in 1992 and 1994. Assessment of RIT-induced chromosomal damage by the cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay (CBMN) showed the persistence of elevated micronucleus frequency in this patien...
